IFMIF-DONES. Accelerator Vacuum & Safety Engineering
Published:
Overview
IFMIF-DONES (International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility - Demo Oriented NEutron Source) is a major fusion research infrastructure designed to test and qualify materials for future fusion power plants.
My work within the project is focused on the interface between accelerator engineering, vacuum technology and safety.
Engineering topics
- Accelerator vacuum systems
- Vacuum-loss accident scenarios
- Safety and mitigation strategies
- Vacuum instrumentation
- Fast isolation systems
- Experimental validation
- System integration and testing
Engineering approach
The work connects safety analysis with physical experimentation, combining modelling, instrumentation and controlled testing to understand the behaviour of vacuum systems during abnormal events.
This provides an engineering basis for evaluating mitigation strategies and supporting the safety case of accelerator systems.
